Shades pages 3-6

Here are the next three pages for the comic. The paper was fun to find and I've enjoyed playing around with the characters. You should start see how the story is starting to develop.  And the plot thickens. Enjoy, comments are appreciated :)

Shades of Yellow: pages 1-3

I am not sure how to present these pages but I will just post them as normal images and then you can tell me what you think.
I kinda left this project a while ago and then felt I needed to finish it so here it goes I will try my best to post the whole book... all 22 pages of it at least and then I shall be done with this short story. I'm only going to post three pages at a time, though.
Yippeee, and enjoy..... comments are appreciated :)

IF: Whiskers

This weeks theme is whiskers and of course the first thing I thought of was a cat but I'm allergic to cats and therefore don't hold any fondness to them. So I tried the next thing that I thought of which were seals. I remembered their mass of whiskers and thought they would be perfect.

I also thought the cutest of the seals were the grey seals and they had great spots all over their bodies.

This one was definitely fun, and quick. Till next week :)

IF: Tree

This one is turning into a fun story. Seems those that are shy can win out if they just keep trying.

The illustration itself was simple enough to create. The concept was fun, I always seem to like to create trees. They are one of the funnest subjects to illustrate. They are so flexible and versatile.

IF: Shy

 Um....I think you dropped this.

Alright, new month...new story. Lets see how it will unfold for this poor shy fellow. I am actually quite happy how this one turned. I wasn't sure how to go with this subject, but I work at a school so how else can I be inspired but with that which surrounds me. And the boys here have no idea how to speak to the girls.

I also had some fun with the technique mixing water color with block printing. All applied digitally but with the attempt to make it look traditional. I'm really starting to like this new style.

IF: Sky

Here is the last of the Octobers series. I didn't get to work on it as long as I would like but overall the series is sound.
I tried to tell a story in honor of the holiday, Halloween. Focusing on what might actually scare you is just your own imagination. In the end, I couldn't help myself putting in a blob of a monster. hehe

In any case...  Happy Halloween! Everyone!

IF: Water

I hate deadlines. But here you go, the next part of the story. Not my favorite and I did most of this tired after finishing another illustration. But I will accomplish my goal this month.

IF: Mirror

Missed the deadline for this week but I still wanted to continue the sequence.
So here is the image for 'mirror'.
I wanted to go along the theme of the thing you fear the most is in your mind. This girl has created in her mind her worst fears and so will jump at anything, even a simple reflection of herself. Remember this is a sequence and this is only the second in the series, so check out the other illustrations to get the full story. :)

IF: Book

Happy October Everyone!
I want to get back to having a sequential story along with the themes from Illustration Friday. So here is the first of a series, I will see how the story evolves as we get new themes from I.F. It will be scary though in respect for October cheer.

This particular piece I tried to focus on texture and I did have a lot of fun with that. I need to play more with the Korean paper I have recently picked up so we shall see what I will do next.

IF: Bounce

Illustration done in a half hour, bounce. Next topic please, this one wasn't my favorite.

IF: Lonely

Thank you all for last post's support, I never dreamed to have been chosen to be the highlight of the week in IF. It was a great honor.

I am still playing with textures and styles but I'm liking what my style is developing into. This piece was done digitally though I am trying to create an image that you would think was done traditionally. Any criticism is welcome. :)

IF: Suspend

Well, it took a while but I turned out an illustration. I thought long and hard at what would be best to illustrate 'suspend'. Then the other day I was attacked by a small 'harmless' spider and the idea hit me. There was a perfect example of something suspended in air. The spider seemed to just float there... right before I smashed it :) But it did inspire me and here is the result.

IF: Shiny

I seem to be developing a liking to Magpies. They are really cool birds and really fun to design. I learned that some of them like to collect shiny objects to impress potential mates. So I was a little inspired by that. It was a fun quick illustration.

IF: Faded

Well, another week and here we are with a new theme from Illustration Friday. This week is Faded, this week was also the time we had presentation at my Korean school where the lower level kids were singing 'Twinkle Twinkle little Star'. I couldn't help but be inspired by the screaming..I mean singing children. It was a fun quick illustration.

Teaser: 'Shades of Yellow'

Hey, so I am starting to round up my new comic and to give you a teaser here is the cover for 'Shades of Yellow'. This is a story about a friendless boy and an insane girl who are fighting the forces of evil in the form of Butterflies. It is only a 22 page comic but it is fun none the less.

IF: Kernel

Well, here is a simple illustration. I feel like I could do better but I am not that into this theme this week in illustration friday but I am trying my best to do an illustration a week. So yeah here we are.

IF: Jump

So here is an oldie but a goodie. I did this a few years ago and I think it needs a little lime light. I felt that it fit the description of the theme this week on illustration friday very well. Origially the project was a fortune cookie project where you got a fortune cookie and whatever your fortune was you had to illustrate it. My cookie told me to take a leap of faith and I envisioned a purple cow. So here is the leap of Faith.

Lost Tales

I've realized that I have a lot of projects that I've picked up and put down. Many of these stories have never been viewed and probably will never go public in any other way. So I'm starting the 'lost tales' series for those poor forsaken stories that are hatched in my head but for some reason or another I lose interest. I still like the characters even if the story fell through. So here is the first. The timekeeper: her character is Lost really. She can't remember the past because it has been stolen away from her and because she is supposedly the 'god of time' the world around her is starting to fall apart. There was a lot more detail but I could never figure out the ending so she with her story is dropped.

IF: Vocal

This last week it was the Cherry blossom Festival here is South Korea and I have to say I was inspired. The crowds were huge and very loud. Amongst all those people and activity, you could still here the magpies cawing away. If anything those birds are vocal when they want to be.

IF: Return

Here is a quick one and I have to say I am starting to really like this method of creating a picture. Since I don't have a scanner here I've started just using a scratch-board style. It is working out okay.
Also with the theme of Return what better subject then a golden retriever.

IF: Shades

Alright, I'm back everyone. Sorry I've been in a transitionary stage for a few months and so it has been hard to crank out the art. I'm in South Korea now and I should be able to get back into the swing of things.
So I wanted to start this off with this piece of Art, mainly because when I read the theme 'shades' I thought about all the different shades of color that a butterfly can have in its wings. This is also a starter illustration for a comic I've been considering to start. More to come :)

Grandma's 80th Birthday

shh...We had a surprise Birthday Party for my grandmother and this was my contribution to the whole party. I illustrated her program and I think it turned out great

Crafting Robin Hood

Once upon a time about three years ago, I was in a class where our focus was to illustrate the story of Robin Hood. Recently one of my fellow illustrators who was in that class asked if we were interested in revisiting that enjoyable time so he started a blog for us to post some more Robin Hood illustrations. Here is my first post for it. I wanted to do a young Robin Hood illustration, so I did :)
It was for fun and quick, but turned out great.

LC Career Paths for Highschoolers

So while I was volunteering at LC Highschool for my online TEFL class, the teacher I was volunteering for discovered that I was an artist. So he asked me to do an illustration for one of his presentations. They were helping me with my class so I thought I would go ahead and help them out as well. I thought it turned out well enough, it isn't what I normally do or at the level of a portfolio but I was happy to help out the teacher and the students.
